 FWIW, works here:
 
 darklight# mount_smbfs -Eutf-8:cp866 //yuri at lifebane/c$ /mnt
 Password:
 darklight# mount
 <snip>
 //YURI at LIFEBANE/C$ on /mnt (smbfs)
 
 Are you sure that you are using correct user credentials?
