I did:

mediaopt full-duplex

ifconfig em2 now reports:
..
media: Ethernet 100baseTX <full-duplex> (autoselect)
status: no carrier

do the above
>Fix:
"ifconfig media autoselect" brings the interface active again
 but the ability to set specific media/mediaopt is what is required


"ifconfig em2 media 100baseTX" also shuts the interface down
