I don't believe it's significant that I'm running in amd64 mode, but the

The laptop has two headphone ports.  They're both live --- but the speakers
don't switch out when the headphones are in use.  I see a lot of commits
to hdac.c talking about other laptops that require some software to
switch to headphones.  This one does as well.

from speakers.
