 i queried the PR database several times using "umount" as the criteria
 without any results.  obviously the db was inaccessible at the time, and
 my PR hasn't shown up for a while.
 
 indeed, your PR is very similar to mine and is more comprehensive.  if
 it turns out that both have a common cause, i won't object if mine is
 closed in favour of yours.
 
 now that the PR-db is up again, i noticed there are quite a number of
 related PRs.
