FreeBSD schleppi.lokal 6.1-STABLE FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE #0: Tue Aug 22 08:47:05 CEST 2006 root at schleppi:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/KERNEL i386

>Description:
I experience unusually frequent name lookup failures on two different machines, which also have different connections to the internet and use different DNS servers. (The machines are about 20km apart)
The other machine has a kernel and world from sources of Sep, 17th.

I typically observe this when running csup: "Name lookup failure for "cvsup.de.FreeBSD.org": Non-recoverable failure in name resolution"
It also happens sometimes when using "host" for reverse DNS lookups.
Repeating the same operation just after i got this error succeeds.

I talked to somebody with two RELENG_6_1 machines, who made similar observations. I observe this phenomen for quite some time now and therefore doubt it is something related to the DNS servers I am using. I suspect a problem in FreeBSD, but it is still too infrequent to reliably reproduce it. Maybe somebody with more experience in this matter has any pointers.
>How-To-Repeat:
Happens sometimes when doing DNS lookups. I have not discovered a particular way to trigger it.
