FreeBSD dell 5.4-STABLE FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE #1: Fri Apr 29 21:56:38 PDT 2005 root at dell:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/dell i386
>Description:
No /dev/vmmon node is created after installing/starting VMware 3 on an SMP machine running 5.4-STABLE.
Manually kldload'ing vmmon_up.ko results in a /dev/vmmon node. Which is, unfortunately, not usable - the message "VMware Workstation does not run on 2.0.x SMP Linux kernels. Please update to a 2.2.x or later SMP Linux kernel." appears in a dialog box after pressing "Power On".
>How-To-Repeat:
Install VMware3 port on an SMP machine running 5.4-STABLE with linux_base either rh7.3 or rh8 (identical symptoms).
