Afraid I don't have a concrete answer. I believe it may be ok now but it
has been a while and I don't quite recall what the resolution was.

The system in question still has the board installed. It's running
4.10-STABLE and the modules (miibus and ed0) are statically linked in the
kernel. There are no error messages on boot. The card is configured but is
not connected to anything - which may have been my resolution.

I would suspect, if there aren't any other similar reports since that time
that it's ok now.
