usb keyboard not work on AMD K8VT800 mobo

usb keyboard does not work, though freebsd sees it being plugged and unplugged and recognizes the device. usbdevs lists the keyboard but there is no response when I type. The keyboard works fine on windows.

K8VT800 mobo, VIA K8T800 chipset
amd64 athlon
FreeBSD 5.2.1 for AMD64
