FreeBSD fx.homeunix.org 5.3-STABLE FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE #5: Sun Nov 14 17:27:38 CET 2004 root at fx.homeunix.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/FX i386
when mounting a CD, the following error is output:

% grep READ_BIG /var/log/messages
Nov 15 13:18:24 fx kernel: acd0: TIMEOUT - READ_BIG retrying (2 retries left)
Nov 15 13:18:24 fx kernel: acd0: FAILURE - READ_BIG timed out
Nov 15 13:18:54 fx kernel: acd0: TIMEOUT - READ_BIG retrying (2 retries left)

please do not dismiss this as a hardware error: 5.2.1 works perfectly on
the same machine.
