FreeBSD JoesBSDBox 5.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE #1: Wed Nov 10 22:53:39 EST 2004 joe at JoesBSDBox:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/JOESBSDBOX i386
>Description:
I use atapicam so that I can use my Sony CD burner with cdrecord. However, atapicam also attaches itself to my ATAPI Zip100 drive. All seems well until I start k3b to start burning CDs. When k3b starts "scanning for devices", the system locks, and then reboots (without going through the normal shutdown-procedure, just a hard reset). When disabling write support to /dev/pass0 (the Zip100's passthrough-device), k3b continues normally and detects my CD-Writer just fine. So, k3b must be writing to /dev/pass0, and somehow causing the system to reboot. My ATA devices are as follows: hard disk on primary master, zip drive on primary slave, DVD-ROM on secondary master, CD writer on secondary slave. I think this may be an issue with atapicam and the way it is handling commands with my Zip drive. I'll post my dmesg below. If you guys need anything more, just let me know! Thanks guys!

Joe

>How-To-Repeat:
Use an ATAPI Zip100 drive with atapicam, and start k3b with write permission to /dev/passX.
>Fix:
No fix, just avoid setting write permission to the pass-through device associated with the Zip drive.
