 Nice to see, not that i take delight in this, that somebody also has
 problem when convert is faced w/ a large number of files.
 
 I had problem w/ convert long time ago on a [34].x (non-CURRENT)
 branch while either creating an index and/or thumbnails of JPEG/GIF
 images.  The machine locked up & had to do hard power down when did
 2-3 times.  Since then i have given up on using convert on more than
 a few images.
