Cannot boot HP Evo 310 system from CD

I am trying to boot my HP Evo 310 system with a 2.8 GHz P4 system from a 4.8 or
5.0 CD, and I get a register dump and then:

BTX halted

The drive I am booting off of is an HP IDE DVD200i DVD writer.

What now?
