Hi,
here's a follow-up, thanks to Andy Farkas who advised me to try the
SMP kernel on the box with the L2 cache disabled.
This does circumvent the stability problem, the machine survies numerous
kernel builds, bonnie(s) over the ocean and back, as well as anything X.
But, it's slow as a molasse now. To be precise, at least twice as slow
as it was anyway already with L2 cache. So now, with the SMP option
enabled I am back to where I was with L2 cache and UNI.
I am still hoping that this is not a hardware problem which cannot
be fixed (after all, it works just fine and dandy in UNI). Is there
anything I can do/debug to make a solution more likely? Or, would some
kind SMP soul please speak up to point out that undocumented
kernel option
option fix_intergraph_TD4_SMP_L2_problem
for rouge SMP hardware?
Seriously, I went through LINT, but the only thing I found regarding L2
seems to be enabled only on some non-Intel CPUs.
Any pointers are most welcome!
Thanks & Cheers, Stefan
