I’ve been attempting to get something “out of the box” working with my 8GB - I don’t really like futzing around in boot images as it’s not an easily reproducible solution. In the spirit of scientific enquiry I’m currently building a release image (on my Pi, might be a while :) ) from today’s CURRENT to see if the updates to rpi-firmware Just Work with booting an 8G.
