The duplicated cp line is a copy/paste error: I had copied/pasted
the cp line before it finished and copied/pasted the 3 lines after
the diff completed --but I did not replace the original cp line
like I should have.

Only noted so that the structure of my test procedure can be followed
as it actually was executed.
