Whither hw.board.serial?

The Pi series of hardware previously exposed sysctl hw.board.serial as a
read-only that contained the hardware board serial number.

As of 12-STABLE it appears to be gone on the Pi3 at least.

Is this intentionally gone or did it rot somewhere?
