Is CPUTYPE=cortex-A7 supposed to work?

Sure, but the emacs one is both more predictable than any of the other
failures and _doesn't_ involve openssl (it might load 100 shared libs,
but libcrypto is not amongst them; gnutls is, but isn't being called).
The emacs text display bug is reproducible in emacs-nox11 build.

Right, but it's not simply the use of NEON which is the issue because
importing the NEON sha1 code into git in an otherwise non-cortex-a7
build does not reproduce any problem.
