Should be possible. I've heard that X works there, but I haven't tried
it by myself. RPi is something I would like to avoid. But there aren't
much more other ARM choices right now. Chromebook is another thing that
can somewhat output video. And BBB could maybe output something to
graphic LCD (direct connection, no HMDI). But IIRC currently RPi is only
thing where FB works? Apart from "Efika" hardware, maybe.

You can have emulated environment where you can compile things.
