FYI, as of this evening (and per the HEADS UP on freebsd-current), most of
the locking part of this is now committed to CVS HEAD, with an intent to
merge to RELENG_5 in a few weeks.  There's more work to do on the
locking/cleanup/testing for IPX/SPX, and I'll chug away a bit more on it,
but we should now be in a much better position than we were.
