'tar' is programmed into my fingers too, but I must admit
that I like the idea of limiting the amount of GNU-licensed
bits in /rescue. I guess gzip needs to be there, is there
anything else that's gnu-ish?
[hopefully this is the last bit of paint that I will add to
this potential bikeshed...]
