Works for me.

(gdb) b main
Breakpoint 1 at 0x4007a9: file a.c, line 5.
(gdb) r
Starting program: /home/kib/work/a
Breakpoint 1, main (argc=1, argv=0x7fffffffe748) at a.c:5
5               fprintf (stderr, "hello bsd\n");
