amd64/134757: 32 bit processes on 64 bit platforms occasionally drop core with bad ds reg

I've not tried this under 7.x yet but do plan on doing so within the
next few weeks or so.

Unfortunately, I'm sort of stuck with this 6.3 32 bit/64 bit 
arrangement for the next 6 months or more as we've a number of systems
deployed.
