Try looking at
http://www.cokane.org/dokuwiki/freebsd/amd64_compatibility#compaq_r3000_or_hewlett-packard_zv5000_uswhich
discusses the R3000. The big problem I found with those laptops is
some PCI issues on the nForce chipsets that came up during amd64
installation.
