In case anyone else is suffering with a similar machine, the R3000Z ISO actually does allow the keyboard of this misbegotten thing to work. There's lots of ACPI errors, but it can proceed to sysinstall. I haven't completed the full installation, deciding to wait for a formal fix. Thanks again for all the suggestions, Jeff Katcher
