Tyan's beta 2.0 BIOS with APIC enabled got me up with SMP. Yeah!

I do show these errors in dmesg:

ACPI-1287: *** Error: Method execution failed
[\\_SB_.PCI0.SBRG.HPET._STA] (Node 0xffffff00008edc00), AE_AML_REGION_LIMIT
ACPI-0175: *** Error: Method execution failed

Digging through the list archives, it appears this is normal behavior and
will get minimized if I track -CURRENT.

Am I assuming correctly here?
