Unlikely if you still see it with beta releases.
You should still try to boot a new kernel without ata, so we at least
know if it is really related - so far it is only a theory.
Just make a backup of your existing kernel - e.g. under
/boot/kernel.work, fetch recent RELENG_5 source and do a
make kernel KERNCONF=GENERIC.with-ata-removed
