I hope you don't use amd(8) to mount your /usr/src and/or /usr/obj?
This is known (to me) to cause problems with stale NFS handles, due
to the way amd(8) works.

Oh don't worry, on a 166MHz NoName AXPpci33 it takes much longer than
that! ;)
