It wasn't sticky -- /boot/support.4th overwrites /boot/nextboot.conf
with ``nextboot_enable="NO"''.  After boot:

$ cat /boot/nextboot.conf 
nextboot_enable="NO" 
kernel="kernel"
kernel_options=""
