So you want to export the entire basesystem rw from the Mac mini instead of
mounting /usr/src from somewhere to run "make delete-old"?
If I build a world for several machines, I always mount /usr/src and /usr/obj
on the target system and run installworld and mergemaster locally instead of
exporting the entire FS for the basesystem rw. I use DESTDIR if I prepare a
new HD for a new setup, but not to update an existing system.

If a man had a child who'd gone anti-social, killed perhaps, he'd still
tend to protect that child.
