also lots of ^H are quite annoying in serial console logs.

what about changing the interactive menu to a simple print-out banner
with some good advises for the most common options/settings needed:
how to disable ACPI or set bootverbose in loader.
I always liked the hints given in motd; so why not have some
static texts ?
