It should be documented somewhere (nsswitch.conf(5) probably)
where NSS modules may be loaded from.

There should be documentation for NSS module writers/porters.

There ought to be a handbook entry that gives the big picture of
what FreeBSD versions support what, and what modules people have used,
and so on.

I'll be filling these things in as I can.  I'm hoping a doc committer
will help me organize it.
