This freedom usually leads to insecure or simply broken-by-design ports in tree.
For an extreme case take a look at gentoo foundation. I don't want to end up
like them.

Policies should always present, but had to be designed to not limit creativity,
while enforcing rules. That's what you and the entire portmgr team exists for.
