I have to say that the original diff approved by my mentors didn't
include the whitespace fix (I have noticed it right before committing
it) and _I_ alone decided to commit it with the "full stop" fix.

Anyway, I still think that this is not a real problem and I use to
commit whitespace fixes separately to content changes. I don't
consider this commit as a real whitespace and content change - It's on
the same line and translators are easily able to find out what has
been changed.
