The easiest way is to simply load a kernel model for your network card
with &man.kldload.8;.  Note the old non-PNP ISA NICs require
additional setup of /boot/device.hints before they can be used.

In 5.x and current, you have to setup these cards using hints,
reguardless of how the driver gets into the kernel.
