Colloquially, it does.  According to Webster's, it doesn't.
However, I've just found a definition in WordNet that agrees with you,
which is good enough for me.

My original point was that if your objection to the original was the
connotations of "2-ness", then this change may be ineffective.  "Few"
might be a better choice, as it has never meant anything other than
"some, but not too many" and doesn't have associations with breeding
pairs.  It's not really important to me, but might be to you since you
made this commit ;-)
