While I agree that IRC is certainly not a replacement for our mailings
lists, it can be useful for a quick polling of rather small changes
like this since there are several doc committers in that channel.
Many "older" doc committers would probably just have nuked the thing
without asking anyone else.

Personally I have done the same thing many times, I probably just
haven't explictly written where it was discussed.

I really don't think there is any issue here.
