In search of something more stable than 5.2.1-RELEASE on my laptop
Toshiba Satellite S5100-603
http://berklix.com/~jhs/hw/toshiba/s5100-603/
I have ACPI problems there: It will not boot with ACPI
turned on, & mostly ignores fxp0: with ACPI turned off,
(+ fear if ACPI off, maybe processor fan control may not work
optimally & processor might overheat ?) ... & not wanting to go back to 4.x )
/pub/FreeBSD/branches/4.0-stable exists
/pub/FreeBSD/branches/5.0-stable does not.
cvs -R export -r RELENG_5_2 src
produces a kernel that installs, boots single user, & reports
5.2.1-p9, but hangs just after "Setting hostname" (OK, I
havent done a make world yet, that;s now running single user)
Anyway, it seems those CVSUP users have a luxury we CTM users don't
have: they get to have a more recent kernel, why is that ? Is it
lack of human resources to config a new CTM feed, lack of generator
machine resources (I could contribute there) ? or is it lack of
some CVS tag ? (but if its lack of some CVS tag, how come those
CVSUP users get a P9, & we CTM users need to run cvs after receiving
the cvs tree by ctm, why can't we have a CTM 5 stable feed. The
cvsup folk already have something useful for them.
/usr/cvs/src/Makefile,v has:
