aic7xxx and adaptec 2944uw HVD cards...

Hi Folks,

I've been down a very frustrating road, trying to get an ADIC Scalar 100 with
two SDLT 220 HVD drives working. Its connected to a DELL 2550 server, via
two Apaptec 2944uw HVD cards. (1 card is connected to the robotic arm and an
SDLT drive, and the other card is connected directly to the remaining SDLT
card.)

I'm running Legato Networker 7.1

I'll try and run back ups, and they might work for a time, but then I get SCSI error messages in /var/log/messages. Sometimes, this breaks backups completely, sometimes, this just breaks one drive, and the other works fine. I've enclosed a sample of those messages with the hope that someone out there might know what it means, for I have no
idea. I've called ADAPTEC, and they say that Suse 9 is not a supported OS for this card, so they couldn't help me.

Also, I've done the following things in the SCSI Card BIOS screen, via the support I did get from adaptec:

-Set the "Sync Transfer Rate" to "Async" for the SCSI Id of the "jukebox" only.
-Set "Initiate Wide Negotiation" to "No"
-Set "Enable Disconnect" to "No"
-Set "Send Start Unit Command" to "No"

The thought was that by doing the above, it would slow down the messages being sent to the drives, and therefore avoid any conflicts.

Yet, I still get the following messages. Does anyone know what this means? Do
I need to change the BIOS settings for the drives, also? Or will the jukebox
settings do?

- Thanks,

Todd

ps. Here's the /var/log/messages output:
