The aic7xxx driver does not spit out any messages at all.  Here's what I
get, after the IDE cdrom and floppy disks are detected:

   Partition check:

Embedded AIC-7896/7 found on Intel-produced L440GX motherboards.  Here's
what dmesg produces, using the 6.1.13 driver:
