aic7xxx: scsi cdwriter halts the system

Hello,

I am running an Adaptec 2940U2W Card in our Linux Server system.
Attached to the card are two U2W LVD HDisks (including the root disk) and
a CDROM.

The problem is that I would like to attach an additional cdwriter
to the interface. However, if I do so and use cdrecord to burn the images
the system only survives one cycle of writing and finishing a disk.
The second time I start writing cdrecord hangs and soon after this,
because the attached disks include the root disk, the whole system hangs
and I have to reset. This is rather annoying.
I am using kernel 2.2.13 and have applied all aic7xxx patches (up to 28).

The proc device lists the following configuration (cdwriter is MATSHITA
CD-R CW-7502, Rev4.10 scsi-id=6 not connected here).

scsi0 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.1.28/3.2.4

Uniform CDROM driver Revision: 2.56
SCSI device sda: hdwr sector= 512 bytes. Sectors= 17916240 [8748 MB] [8.7 GB]

Have anybody heard of similar problems or do have any idea what to
do to further investigate the problem? It seems to be very difficult
because the system does not stay alive after the problem occures.

With best regards, Axel.
