AIC-7890 - Gateway ALR8200R

I've got a Gateway ALR8200R that shipped with an AIC-7890 SCSI
controller on the motherboard.  When it tries to load the aic7xxx driver,
the system locks up completely.  Anybody have any clues for the clueless?
