Hi --
I have a dual Intel PII/450 on an ASUS P2B-DS motherboard, bought
January 1999. The onboard SCSI is a Adaptec 7890 (from /proc/pci):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bus 0, device 6, function 0:
SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AIC-7890/1 (rev 0).
Medium devsel. Fast back-to-back capable. BIST capable. IRQ 19. Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=39.Max Lat=25.
I/O at 0xd000 [0xd001].
Non-prefetchable 64 bit memory at 0xdf000000 [0xdf000004].
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Attached to it is a disk (SCSI id 0), cdrom (id 1), CD-R (id 2).
This has been working fine with Redhat 5.2 (ie linux 2.0.36 kernel),
but Redhat 6.0 (ie, linux 2.2.5 kernel) can't finish probing the scsi
bus, since modprobing aic7xxx ends up in an infinite loop timing out
probing for scsi id 3, which doesn't exist.
I was able to install Redhat 6.0 by sticking an IDE scsi in, and
ignoring SCSI entirely.
>From there, I've tried upgrading from Redhat Linux 2.2.5-15smp kernel
to Redhat 2.2.5-22smp. That didn't help.
I also tried stock linux 2.2.11 kernel. That didn't help either:

Is this a problem with a known fix? (I've been unable to locate
archives for this mailing list.) Or am I in trouble if I want to run
2.2.x kernels? I've tried a number of things, but not everything. I
can generate more information about my configuration on demand.
Thanks!
