Linux 2.0.34+aic7xxx-5.1.0pre4: Problem with Intel R440LX motherboard

I got exactly the same with 2.1.108 and pre3-2.1.108 on a
ASUS P2B-S with two 4.5GB IBM DDRS-34560/UW hardisks and a Toshiba
XM-6201 CD-ROM.

I'm thinking of disabling the onboard SCSI controller and installing
another one (probably one based on the NCR-53c875). Any advise?
