Help: Problems with 7880UW controller/IBM HD

Dear all

I recently bought a Supermicro P6DLS, a 2PII mobo with an integrated 7880,
to which I wanted to connect an IBM Ultrastar 2ES DCAS-34330W. The system is
to be used under Linux. I also have a Pioneer CD-Rom connected to the other
channel.

Unfortunately, the disk behaves pretty slowly. The BootLog for Linux says the
reason is that the system does not accept a wide bus, nor synchronous
mode. We tried changed cables, setting termination in the BIOS, but to no
avail.

We also tried the system under Win95 with EzSCSI. EzSCSI says the disk
is synch and wide bus, but gives only 3.5 MBps on their benchmark.

Has anyone seen similar problems? Any ideas on what is going wrong :-(.

Please, also send answers to my personal address (vsc at ncc.up.pt), as I
don't subscribe to this list.

Thanks for any help,

Vitor
