hello Roger.  Thanks for the quick reply and pointer.  Just for clarification on this list, in case 
someone reads this later, the actual variable to set in the xl.cfg file, also can be set in the
specific guest configuration files, is:
msr_relaxed = 1

This is documented on the xl.cfg man page in the xen package.
