Just want you to know:

after the past two days recompiling the whole X11 subset of ports including
requirements/dependencies and those for the x11/nvidia-driver (doing so with
portmaster -df ...) and recompiling the whole OS first with deleting /usr/obj/*
first, this afternoon after loading nvidia-modeset the box showed the xdm
requester as expected!

I can only guess: either the kernel has been a kind of fixed until now causing
this issue (16.0-CURRENT #6 master-n282239-57c0a337dbc5: Sat Nov 29 09:07:33
CET 2025 amd64) and/or my xorg suite has been out-of-sync causing a hang in the
Xorg server (which was eating up 100% WCPU in top and causing a hang after
trying to issue "reboot" or "shutdown -r now" - had to switch off/on
physically). This is gone now.
