I'm not a nvidia insider, but my understanding (and my experiences indicate) is that all kernel-version-dependent codes are provided as source codes in upstream driver tarballs. OTOH, graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod[-devel] is linked with codes from corresponding graphics/drm-*-kmod and requires LinuxKPI, thus, quite fragile on kernel updates just as graphics/drm-*-kmod do.
