Reading
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions
and it's correct, and IIUC, VBE would be basically for environment booting from
legacy BIOS or from legacy mode of UEFI with CSM.
And as UEFI mimics legacy BIOS using CSM functionalities if booted in legacy
BIOS mode, disabling VBE on UEFI boot (machdep.bootmethod is UEFI) looks
logical to me.
But if the VBE issue happenes on non-UEFI modes, it could actually be a
problem.
And for me, I've never experienced broken screen on vty switch using
Ctrl-Alt-F1 (from xorg session), both on BIOS boot (including via CSM, before I
switched to UEFI boot) and UEFI boot. Alt-F9 to go back to xorg works, too,
unless too heavy loads makes screensaver (screen locker) malfunctioning.
Note that, when I'm using nvidia GPUs, I disable iGPU via BIOS/UEFI fw or even
don't have iGPUs (as of old CPUs).
