iwlwifi problems after forcing iwlwifi to use 5G SSID

Late last month I removed my 2.4G SSID from wpa_supplicant.conf which
finally got my Intel Alder Lake card to associate with my 5G SSID and set
the mode to 11ac. This worked fine until I re-booted. Now the network
failed to start, spitting out repeated 'No beacon heard' messages with the
interface rapidly moving DOWN and then UP, finally giving up and leaving
the Interface DOWN.

After logging in, I did 'service netif start wlan0' and the network came up
fine and continued to be stable until I next rebooted the system when the
same thing happened again.

The log of the event is attached. Much is repetitive, but kept changing a
bit until the network was restarted.
