The rc.conf "mode 11ac" bit? Yes, I tried that. Sadly, no effect for me :(

I compiled the kernel just yesterday, with a fresh git clone and
'switch stable/14'. Hopefully I got it right - my tech skills are a
bit rusty.

Many thanks for such a fast response on the weekend too. I'm attempting to 
keep up with the mail list now, so will ping as requested; if required.

If it helps with investigating at all, I'm using a TP-Link Deco Mesh
wifi network. I have five access points spread around the house.
